Test Construction & Development
Psychometrics, the branch of psychology that deals with the theory and
practice of test construction, is one of two main fields of interest.
I have developed software to enable test development through item-analysis,
factor analysis, reliability and validity estimation (in Kline, P.:1986:
A Handbook of Test Construction. London: Routledge). I have
- Knowledge of work-sampling, interview, repertory grid and other methods
of discovering the domain to be investigated
- Considerable experience in writing items for personality and ability
tests
- Awareness of the effects of differential item functioning, and of
statistical techniques for detecting item bias and test-bias
- Experience in constructing, developing and analysing tests using classical
test theory, factor analysis and item response theory
- Considerable experience in validating tests and evaluating their impact
on equality of opportunity.
